Andy and Marie Givhan began keeping ponds in their backyard in Acworth, Georgia in 1987, where in the process of getting their backyard certified through The Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program, www.nwf.org they were asked what type of water source would be provided for attracting birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

Of course there would be a birdbath… but Marie grew up around fish ponds at her grandparents home, so together we came up with the idea to build a pond!….. Not really knowing how to do this, we begin digging a hole in the backyard.  After much trial and error…. And with the help of many friends and family a pond was born.

Now, what to put in it?….. if you build it they will come… frogs, snakes and birds.  But what about the plants…?  We could not find plants to buy…so we started checking out the swampy areas, creeks, and ponds. One day some friends told us about a company in Lake City, Florida, where we could purchase the plants we had been looking for.  In order to buy what we wanted we had to be a wholesale business …sooo… ”Givhandy”s, Inc. was born.  Marie’s sister came up with the name as a combo for Andy Givhan….. and we started buying plants from them.

Soon, others we had gotten hooked on Water Gardening wanted plants too…we were the most fortunate kids in the world to be able to turn our hobby into a business.  Soon we got hooked up with Home Depot, and have been taking care of them ever since. We also assist not only pond builders and landscape architects with aquatic design, but lend our knowledge to first time pond owners.  Assisting in Restoration Projects is another area of involvement.

Givhandy”s, Inc. will assure you that you are getting the Best, Highest Quality plant that can be provided.  Our knowledge and experience are two things that we love to share.

The Givhan’s would like to thank friends and family for their love and support for us and our Business.

A special THANK YOU to Don and Shirley Bryne for sharing their knowledge and experience with two crazy kids from Georgia, and for mentoring us in regards to not only the “Aquatic World”, but on Life, Love, Fun and Friendship.
